When being sick just isn’t an option: How to beat the winter blues
A few days ago, a patient of mine woke up, got the kids off to school, went to the gym and had a killer workout, but by mid-morning they felt as though “the walls were falling down” on them. They had been running around like a maniac throughout the holidays and a seasonal virus strain caught up with them and started to sneak past their normally strong defenses. They made it to end of work day in the office, went home, dealt with kid’s homework, cooked dinner for everyone - and then, started to feel even worse: more achy, fatigued and weak, so much so that they could barely walk. Realizing their immune system had been compromised was tough enough, but then when the chills set in they knew they “caught” something serious. So off to bed they went.
Does that sound familiar? Perhaps like you, your family or someone you know, especially during the time of year when colds and flu are so prevalent? If so, don’t let that get the best of you! There are ways to deal with these awful symptoms; before you end up bedridden for days, or a week, or more.
My patient made an emergency appointment with me the first thing in the morning and I did a general exam after which I started an IV Myers Cocktail of high dose vitamins and nutrients while they remained in the office. When I released them to go home from my office I made sure they took with them my oral nutraceutical blend for a quick recovery. This blend consists of oscillococcinum (say that three times fast), Echinacea/golden seal tincture, olive leaf extract, allicillin (from garlic), astragalus, oil of oregano tablets, and high dose Vitamin C (in ester form) along with explicit instructions for the use of all these healing substances.
They called me with a follow up and said that within 12 hours of taking my special blend, they were already starting to feel better and they were back to their normal routine the next day (less the gym workout of course).
In addition, when you feel the symptoms of a cold or flu coming on, begin to take these supplements immediately, and don’t forget to take it easy, get plenty of rest, increase your fluids, and try drinking a little hot broth or chicken soup (just like Grandma always recommended…lol). Take a hot soaking bath or a long hot shower to increase blood circulation, dress warm and use an extra blanket when going to bed to promote “sweating it out”. And finally, don’t forget that a little positive energy and a bit of prayer can only help and certainly never hurt anyone. Of course, if symptoms continue and you don’t get better (or you get worse) see your doctor.
